London
Every summer, the Lord of the Universe, Jagannath, His brother, Balarama, and sister, Subhadra, are brought out of the Temple to the streets to bless everyone with Their loving large-eyed glances. This festival dates back thousands of years originating in Puri, India, where it still takes place and is attended by millions of devotees annually.
Just like in India, thousands of devotees, gather in the streets of London to take part in the parade. The devotees sing and dance to the chants of Hare Krsna Mantra. The transcendental vibration produced by chanting this mantra is method of reviving the devotees’ Krsna Conscious that is polluted by the material world.
Among the masses, this group of devotees particularly stood out to me. They appeared to be in a trance-like state, completely absorbed and gratified from the chants. Nothing seemed apparent in that moment, except for the warm devotion towards their god and their transcendence.
